About
I have been a full-time paleo-artist since 1987. My first big commission was to paint a series of murals depicting life in the Tertiary for the Sabadell Museum in Spain. Since then, I have created artwork for museum exhibits worldwide, including The Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Madrid, the Florida Museum of Natural History or the American Museum of Natural History. I have co-authored and illustrated many books, including “The Big Cats and Their Fossils Relatives”, “Mammoths, Sabertooths, and Hominids”, “Evolving Eden”, and “The National Geographic Book of Prehistoric Mammals”. I have illustrated and authored many popular articles, and collaborated with the BBC and Discovery Channel in developing documentary films including “Wild New World”, “Sabretooth” and “Walking with Beasts”. My artwork is inseparable from my research on the anatomy of fossil vertebrates, which has been published in academic journals including the Journal of Vertebrate Paleontology, the Journal of Human Evolution.and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Recently, I am exploring the applications of computer graphic imaging and animation to paleoart, in collaboration with Madrid-based FX studio “The Fly Factory”.
Thank you very much for your great work. Your art has been a tremendous resource as I do fossil restoration on these amazing cats. thanks

You really make the animals come to life with your wonderful art. I loved your work in The Big Cats, Evolving Eden, and the paleo papers I have read. Thanks for your work.
This is a major contribution of knowledge, art, and science with with the author’s insights into a subject he clearly is passionate about. I discovered this site today and am now reading all previous postings. Thank you, Mauricio!!
